2019
It’s a new year – new you – new mindset! The beginning of the year often signifies a reset for change in habits and mindsets. However, one doesn’t have to wait for a new year to resolve and reset! After all according to Birch (2018) 23% of resolutions fail within the first week, 60% of individuals give up within six months, and 81% abandon their goals before the two year time-frame!
Last year I participated in the 18 for 2018 movement initiated by the Happier Podcast from a listener who decided to accomplish 30 (I believe it was 30) things by age 30. Now, in years passed I’ve created a new year resolution list and didn’t yield much success. But last year creating an 18 for 2018 – though I didn’t complete all 18 items I’m still very proud of my accomplishments from last year i.e. this blog!! One of several things I’ve learned from the Happier Podcast is the power of reframing, which is likely an attribute to some of my 18 for 2018 achievements.
Reframing and restructuring is probably the best new year advice to share. In addition, the reset button can be utilized at any time! In fact I’ve reset a couple times already this month – keeping my 19 for 2019 list visible – something I didn’t do last year and sharing it with others will hopefully help hold me more accountable this year to achieve more from my list. The other key thing to mention is to have grace on yourself and all you’re aiming to achieve. Remember to do something today that propels you towards your goals. Things you do daily are steps – one foot at a time – towards an outcome you’d like to produce. After all, as the saying goes… “Rome wasn’t built in a day”
What are you thoughts? What do you resolve to accomplish this year? How is it going? What strategies can you share from past experiences or current experiences on your success? I’ll keep you posted on my 19 for 2019 list! I’m currently reading two books, ‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama thanks to my dear friend for gifting me this book via Amazon Kindle and after being a Happier Podcast listener for three years I deceided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Gretchen Rubin’s book The Happiness Project by purchasing the book and participating in The Happiness Project!
